Caring for your
jewellery

Every Kosy Jewels piece is made to be worn and loved for years. A little care goes a long way — here's everything you need to know to keep your jewellery looking its best.

The basics

Six rules for lasting jewellery

01

Last on, first off

Make jewellery the last thing you put on when getting ready and the first thing you take off. This keeps it away from perfume, hairspray, and makeup — the biggest culprits for dulling gold fill.

02

Store pieces separately

Each Kosy Jewels order comes with a soft pouch — use it. Storing pieces together causes scratches and tangles. If you're travelling, wrap each piece individually in tissue paper.

03

Clean gently and regularly

A quick wipe with a soft, dry cloth after each wear removes skin oils and sweat before they build up. For a deeper clean, use a cloth lightly dampened with warm water — no soap needed.

04

Avoid the bathroom

Steam, humidity, and water are the enemies of longevity. Take your jewellery off before showering, bathing, or doing the dishes. A small dish on your bedside table makes this easy to remember.

05

Mind the chemicals

Chlorine in pools and spas is particularly harsh on gold fill. Sunscreen, fake tan, and cleaning products can also cause discolouration. When in doubt, take it off.

06

Give it a rest

Even the most wearable everyday pieces benefit from a day off now and then. Rotating your jewellery extends the life of each piece and gives you a reason to wear more of your collection.

By material

Care by material

Gold Fill

Most pieces

Gold fill is made by pressure-bonding a thick layer of solid gold to a base metal core — it contains 100× more gold than gold plate and will not flake or peel with normal wear. With proper care, gold fill pieces last for years and maintain their warm colour beautifully.

Do

  • Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wearing
  • Store in the provided pouch or a soft-lined box
  • Put jewellery on last — after perfume, hairspray, and makeup
  • Remove before swimming, showering, or exercising

Avoid

  • Submerge in water for extended periods
  • Expose to chlorine, saltwater, or harsh chemicals
  • Store loose in a bag where pieces can scratch each other
  • Apply perfume or lotion directly onto the piece

Freshwater Pearls

Pearl Drop Necklace

Pearls are organic gemstones — they're formed by living creatures and are more delicate than metal or stone. They're sensitive to acids, chemicals, and abrasion, so they need a little extra attention. Treat them gently and they'll reward you with a lifetime of lustre.

Do

  • Wipe with a damp cloth after wearing to remove skin oils and sweat
  • Store flat or hanging to prevent the thread from stretching
  • Put pearls on last and take them off first
  • Have pearl jewellery restrung every few years if worn regularly

Avoid

  • Expose to perfume, hairspray, or any cosmetics
  • Submerge in water or wear while swimming
  • Store in an airtight container — pearls need slight humidity
  • Clean with ultrasonic cleaners or harsh chemicals

Sterling Silver Posts

All earrings

All Kosy Jewels earrings use sterling silver posts for comfort and hypoallergenic wear. Sterling silver can tarnish over time when exposed to air and moisture, but it's easy to restore with a gentle polish.

Do

  • Polish with a silver polishing cloth when tarnish appears
  • Store in an airtight pouch when not wearing
  • Clean posts with a cotton bud dipped in rubbing alcohol before wearing

Avoid

  • Leave earrings out in the open air for extended periods
  • Wear while swimming or showering
  • Use abrasive cleaners or toothpaste to polish

Repairs & warranty

Something not quite right?

My piece has developed a fault — what do I do?

If your jewellery develops a manufacturing fault within 6 months of purchase, we'll repair or replace it at no cost. Email us at [email protected] with your order number and a photo of the issue and we'll sort it out promptly.

Can you repair a piece I damaged accidentally?

We assess repairs on a case-by-case basis. Email us with photos and we'll let you know what's possible. Accidental damage repairs may incur a small fee depending on the work required.

My gold fill piece has lost its colour — is that normal?

Gold fill is very durable, but prolonged exposure to chemicals, chlorine, or sweat can cause discolouration over time. In most cases a gentle polish with a gold polishing cloth will restore the colour. If the issue persists, get in touch and we can advise further.

Can I resize a ring?

We offer free size exchanges within 14 days of delivery for unworn rings. For resizing after that period, we recommend taking the piece to a local jeweller — gold fill resizes well with standard jewellery tools.
